Chris' Inspirational Story

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? I grew up playing sports and was always active. While playing a softball game I ended up tearing my ACL. I was in crutches for the next 6 months and unable to do any real physical activity for the next 18 months. With the lack of physical activity for so long I started to get out of shape. Eventually I became lazy and worn out then I stopped working out all together. Over time I continued to lose muscle and gain fat. This unattractive change started to effect my attitude and personality. I would constantly "talk" about working out and getting into shape. I became depressed and unhappy with myself because I knew I could look better. For about four years all I did was talk about working out and I got in the worse phyiscal shape I had ever been in.

What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey? I met and became friends with a Beachbody coach. She was very big into fitness and was very passionate about Beachbody and their products. Over a little bit of time she helped me make a great decision by becoming a coach and drinking Shakeology consistently. Over the next few months I started to have more energy and I noticed the success stories people were having using the Beachbody programs. This inspirtation of my coach, the Beachbody community and the hundreds of success stories changed my talk to action. I decided it was about time to get the body I knew I could have.

Why did you choose the particular program? I had already completed the Insanity disc set and was looking for my next physical challenge. I was very happy with the initial results from the prior BeachBody programs and that is why I chose Insanity: The Asylum for my next big challenge! I also like that it promotes full body conditioning and the motivation the programs trainer, Shaun T, provides is great. I saw many clips of the routines that are involved with Insanity: The Asylum which intimidated me, but I was up for the challenge. I knew if I could stick to the entire 60 day program I would improve my physique and fitness level drastically. After attending a fit club that featured Insanity: The Asylum I had to get the program. The next day I ordered the program and was so excited to have Shaun T inspiring me and motivating me in my living room.

What in particular did you like about the program you chose? One thing about the program is the intensity of the program that pushes me past my limits every second of the workout. So many times I wanted to stop and take a break but Shaun T's motivation throughout the program truly kept me digging deeper. Not only was the program an instense cardio workout but it conditioned my body to where I had muscle definition I never knew I could achieve.

Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge? The greatest challenge I faced was eating healthy and not indulging in junk/fast foods. I really enjoy eating, especially great tasting foods which always seemed to be only unhealthy foods. The meal plans from, Insanity, P90X and the Beachbody Club taught me how to eat healthy and to pay attention to the ingredients in everything I ate. Before I never knew how much the food we ate had to do with my physical appearance. I always thought as long as I was working out it was ok to eat whatever. The forums and message boards from Beachbody taught me how important eating correctly was to my appearance and overall health.

Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of? Before I started Insanity I looked flabby and my abs were no where to be found. I was 18% body fat and the weakest I have been since middle school. I also would struggle to jog just 2 miles. After Insanity I have great muscle definition and I can not only feel my abs but I can see them wanting to show off. My body fat went down over 50% to now my body fat is 9%. I not only can jog over two miles with ease, I am entering a sprint Triathalon in a month. I never dreamed that I could finish one let alone compete in race like that. I am most proud of the muscle definition I now have, epecially my 6 pack!

Nate's Inspirational Story

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? I went from 18 years old, 180 lbs and in shape to 30 years old, 253 lbs and fat and tired. I was working at a desk job, got married, had kids, and just plain got lazy. That led to a knee injury and surgery, along with what I considered good excusses for not "pushing" myself. I had terrible self esteem. At the time I was living outside of Myrtle Beach, SC, about a 5 min walk from the beach. I spent my last two "fat summers" without even taking my shirt off, because I was that embarassed about what I had become.

What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey? I have two young boys. They would come up and lay their heads on my stomach and say, "I love the big daddy pillow". I wanted to be a good role model for them, and knew that I wasn't, and if things didn't change, I probably wouldn't be there for them when they were older. I knew the choice that was right, and committed myself to do the hard work so I could succeed. For them and for me.

Why did you choose the particular program? I had heard alot about P90X from the many hours of sitting on my butt on the couch, and watching the infomercials on sundays. I am a person of extrems, and P90X was definatly that for me right then.

What in particular did you like about the program you chose? The best thing about P90X was that all I had to do was what they told me to! The meal plan was a great help in directing me and helping me create a healthy eating plan that I knew I would be able to stick to for life, and not just a "fad" diet.

Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge? My biggest challenge and fear was that my knee would prevent me from getting good results, or even finishing the workout. I had used that as an excuse for so long, I didn't really know what it could handle. So I just did what Tony said, and went at a pace that I could so that I could continue the workouts. As my body got stronger, the pain and fear diminshed.

Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of? I am blown away by the results that I got from P90X!! I went from 253 lbs and lazy, to 184 lbs, ripped and energetic. I am proud of the weight loss, but take more pride in knowing that by being committed to the choice to get healthy, I am being a great role model for my boys. A couple weeks ago I was at my grandfathers funeral with family that I had not seen in a couple years. When I walked into the church, my Dad was in the lobby, he turned and looked when I walked in, and just turned back around and started walking away. I said "Hey Dad! You can't even say hi?" He turned around and looked again with a suprised look and said that he hadn't even recognized me! Thats when I realized how much of a transformation I had gone through.

Jessica's Inspirational Story

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? I absolutely love being a 7th grade English teacher. Truthfully, I tended to let work be my life. I worked all day and continued at night—planning, grading, etc. Work was an excellent distraction from analyzing myself and my life. But, when I really think back to my life before I started the program, I really just was happy enough. Not happy period. Not happy exclamation point. Just happy enough. I had reached this weirdly satisfied but not satisfied acceptance of my life. I weighed how much I weighed. I considered myself the definition of a heavy girl. I was one of many. I had sunk into the realization that I was not a skinny girl, nor would I ever be miserable about who I was. I would not beat myself up or guilt myself because of my weight. I liked food and was prepared to live with the consequences. I had tried (but let’s face it, not really tried) to exercise and diet, but it hadn't really worked.

What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey? I had no idea that I was going to change my life. I was looking for a change—just a regular one though. Not a transformation or a journey. I had finished the school year, teaching another fabulous group of seventh graders, and felt tired all the time. Reality really sunk in when I saw our school yearbook. I was happy to be featured in so many pictures, but didn’t like what I saw. Was that really me? I had settled into a life of teaching, eating, watching TV, and just enjoying the life I had. Those yearbook pictures were more than I was used to. I had been getting ready for another summer of being inactive and not doing much, but I just decided to do something about ME. My friend Katie invited me to workout with her (as she had done many times before) and I decided to actually do it and put some actual effort into it. I committed to myself. I was putting myself before my students, the tests that I had to grade, and the lessons I had been planning. I was going to succeed!

Why did you choose the particular program? I had “worked out” with a few teachers at school during the year but hadn’t done much lately. I can’t really call it working out though. I was doing some minor exercise that justified eating more. I would get drive-thru on my way home as a reward for doing it! Throughout my whole life,I have tried working out sporadically, but have never been fit or athletic. I always hated running and had painfully tight calves, so cardio was out. Walking around the mall for hours would kill my legs. I could walk a treadmill pretty slowly. I took a class here and there, but never found a program I could do or love. So, when I decided to give Beachbody a whirl, I simply had no idea. But, all I had to do was turn to my awesome coach. Katie suggested ChaLEAN Extreme for me. She knew that starting me off with this program would get me motivated and each step in the burn-push-lean cycle did just that. Plus, Chalene is amazing. I finally realized why Katie liked working out so much.

What in particular did you like about the program you chose? The ChaLEAN Extreme system works—it is extreme and effective. Chalene taught me to have a positive inner voice that told me that I can do anything. She taught me how to make progress and how it feels so good to work hard. I wasn’t allowed to go through it at a comfortable level, but go through it pushing myself and give every move my very best effort. “Failing” with Chalene meant that I was actually making progress, because I knew I was challenging myself to the right level with each weight workout. She promised me that I was going to see amazing results…and she kept that promise. I’m happy every time I finish working out with Chalene. I’ve burned a ton of calories, I feel good about myself, I’m sweaty, I have a smile on my face, and I don’t have a care in the world. I learned that I wanted to experience this feeling every day of my life.

Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge? I have never been an athlete, played any sports, trained for anything, or been part of a team. I’m so happy to be part of the BB team and have the best coach in the world .The thing Katie helped me realize is that I’ve never really had to push before. Athletes learn these things through their sport .If I had been working out by myself & had reached that point of tiredness or discomfort, I would have stopped. Katie helped me push through it. I couldn’t have achieved the results I have if I had taken it easy. I needed to lift heavier weights, run faster, squat lower, get down, etc. It was a challenge in every sense of the word. Uncomfortable? Absolutely! It was ridiculously uncomfortable .I overcame my challenge by getting strong mentally as well. I had to believe I could do it. I had to grin and bear it. I had to take the time to do it right. I had to push my body to the max. I had to realize that it would be worth it. I WAS WORTH IT!!!

Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of? I have more energy than I ever thought was possible. Before Beachbody, I would work five days a week and spend the weekends doing nothing because I was so tired. I would make light of it. “What are you doing this weekend, Jessica?” Response: “Couch City and I’m the mayor.” Now I get so invigorated and energized after each workout. I’m active and so much more outgoing. I am ridiculously happy. It pours out of me. People tell me that I look happier all the time. Like I said before, I have lost 63 pounds and 54 inches. I went from a size 18 to a size 10. I can shop at all the stores that all my friends do. That might sound like an absurd statement, but I’m proud of that. I spent too many years shopping with friends and watching them try on clothes. I would give advice on what looked cute or not and just buy an accessory because that’s all I could buy at certain stores. Not anymore! But really, I’m just proud of myself. I DID IT

Lyndsey's Inspirational Story

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? Life before I began my transformation was difficult. I have struggled with obesity most of my life. Food has always been a big part of the lives in my family growing up was and a central part in family get-togethers and celebrations. This bad habit I learned followed me into my adult years and I began to worry about health related problems with my heart and my liver due to being overweight, yet I continued to eat poorly and not pay attention what I was eating, or the portion sizes of it all. In addition to this, beside one or two dance classes a week, I rarely if ever would exercise. I would always try to diet on my own but constantly struggled to lose weight and keep it off. It was at the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009 when I reached my heaviest weight in many years that I finally decide it was time to make a dramatic

What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey? When I reached my heaviest weight, I found out that there was fat surrounding my liver. Hear news like this was like a wakeup call to me because I knew this was very UN healthy. Before this, I usually thought about being overweight as a physical apperacene issue, but after I found this out it hit me that it was a serious health issue. It was then that I realized that I had to make big changes in order to live a long healthy life, it was no longer about looks, it became about my life and my overall health.

Why did you choose the particular program? I have recently completed The Asylum; I chose this program because after finishing all the following programs I needed to take it to the next level. Insanity: The Asylum proved to do just that testing both my endurance and my agility. I started my weight loss journey using Power 90. After researching many products, I decided that Power 90 was the best option to begin my weight loss goal. The 90 day plan seemed motivating and attainable for me. I knew I needed something that was challenging, but geared toward someone who wasn’t in good physical condition. The success I achieved using Power 90 motivated me to try other Beachbody products. From there I was hooked! I’ve become a graduate of Turbo Jam, Power 90 Master’s Series, Chalean Extreme, Insanity, P90x, and Turbo Fire. Each program has pushed me closer to my goals, kept me challenged, and motivated!

What in particular did you like about the program you chose? The things I like most about The Asylum were the challenges it brought. Using the agility ladder was brand new to me and really forced me to sweat my game up. I enjoyed the mix of core, cardio and weight training that this program provided. It was as if every time I progressed, I could try a little more, or do something a little different and it was like a brand new program again.

Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge? During this program, the biggest challenge was my work schedule. For two weekends I had to travel to conferences for a few days. While most people would just take the days off, or use the treadmill in the gym, I decided to not let anything come between me and my workout program. I packed suitcases filled with my weights, my ladder, shakeology and my workout DVDs. I woke up at 4 am before my first meeting and did my workout. It felt good to know that after being over 300 pounds and losing over 150 pounds that I am dedicated and I always make finishing my workouts a priority.

Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of? Beachbody has helped me to achieve a level of fitness I never thought possible! When I weighed over 300 pounds I had begun to believe that I was destined to be overweight my entire life. My entire mindset has changed - Beachbody has given me the tools to transform my body through exercise and diet. Working out has become a part of my daily routine. I enjoy working out and look forward to pressing play each day. I have gained confidence that has spilled over into all areas of my life

Emily's Inspirational Story

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? Before I started this program I was disgusted by the person in the mirror each day. I was tired all the time and though I kept telling myself I wanted to eat better and workout, I told myself I simply didn't have enough time for that. I'm a full time graduate student pursuing a masters degree in Nurse Anesthesia and I am up at 4am Monday thru Friday, and don't get home until 4pm. After being at the hospital all day I come home to become single mommy of my two little girls, 6 and 3, and so finding time to wok out and still get to study and keep a clean house is quite a balancing act. I started school in January already 130 pounds, and steadily gained an addition 10 pounds by the end of May. I was mortified by my before pictures and what I had let myself get to. I couldn't let it go any further, and decided to change my life.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey? I had always been in great shape in high school, doing cheerleading, dance, and working out. But when I found out I was going to be having a baby right before my high school graduation, my life changed forever. I had my beautiful little girl during mid-terms week my first semester of college, and struggled to lose the baby weight. After she was a year old I was only about 5 pounds away from my goal (pre-pregnancy) weight. I got married, had another little girl, finished my bachelors in nursing, and went to work in a high acuity ICU at a Trauma center with plenty of stress. I never really lost the weight after my 2nd baby, and was now 10 pounds over my goal weight. I started grad school in January and got sized for scrubs that I thought would be comfortably baggy. Ten pounds later, by May, I realized I could barely squeeze into my scrub pants anymore and said to myself, "Enough is Enough!" I decided to take control of my life and my body with P90X, and I'm so glad that I did!
Why did you choose the particular program? I saw the infomercials about P90X and thought, there is no way those are real people. I decided to check it out for myself and found countless success stories from people just like me. I thought I was probably way too out of shape to do it, but figured he kept saying just to do your best and forget the rest. I also kept seeing all of this great stuff about Shakeology and thought, maybe it will work for me. So I purchased both and decided to commit. So I showed up on day one, and two, and three, and I could barely walk the first two weeks. But all of a sudden I had energy again. I could climb the stairs at the hospital and not get winded. I could keep up with my babies and not have to get a chair while they ran and played. I was slowly getting my life back. I was happy again, and over 90 days I watched the person in the mirror become the girl I thought I had lost so many years ago. By 120 days I was in better shape than I have ever been, including in high school!
What in particular did you like about the program you chose? I love P90X because it grows with me. In Phase 1, I could barely do the easiest moves in the routines and had to use the lightest weights I had. But each routine gives you so many options with each move, that as my balance, strength, and coordination improved I could increase the difficulty, reps, and weights for each exercise. By Phase 3, I was forcing myself to do the hardest moves in each routine while continuing with maximum reps. I still challenge myself with them in my second round of P90X, and continually evaluate my progress to see where I can push myself a little harder and grow a little more. Whether day 1 or day 90, it's always about showing up, pushing play, and just giving it your best. Except with P90X, my best just keeps getting better as the days go by.
Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge? I really struggled with breaking the 10 pounds of weight loss mark. I steadily lost weigh the first four weeks or so, and then all of a sudden my weight stayed the same for almost 3 weeks. My measurements improved a little, and my body fat decreased slightly, but it was like my body got to the weight it was used to and decided to fight me back. I really struggled with that, because I was eating right, working out as hard as I could, being dedicated and not seeing the results I wanted as fast as I wanted drove me crazy. I almost gave up, but decided to get on the message boards and see if anyone else had dealt with this same thing. I found a thread of people that started the same time as me, and they really encouraged me to stick it out. Within that week I had dropped 2 more pounds and was suddenly into the 120's for the first time in years.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of? When I set my goals at the start of the 90 days, I set what I called "Stupid Goals," which is terrible in hindsight. They were so "unattainable" in my mind, that I actually thought, if I got within 5 pounds or anywhere remotely close to them that I could be satisfied. By the end of one round of P90X with the addition of Shakeology every morning, I had surpassed some of my goals and met the others. My goal for body fat was to get from 28.6% to 22%, which was supposedly the lowest end of normal for my age group. I am now down to 12.9% body fat by day 120! I lost a total of 34 inches from my body and 30 pounds. My goal weight was 120, and I am down to 110, I have not only SUCCEEDED but TRANSCENDED my impossible goals. Those scrub pants I called "sausage pants" on day 1 are now baggy and need to be taken it. Size 10 to a size 0 in 120 days is completely incredible in my book! I have not worn a size 0 in my life, even when I was in great athletic shape as a teenager!
